I think we can all agree that the MPAA is a bit ridiculous. In addition to making sure films are “acceptable” for their audiences, they also must approve poster designs. Unfortunately, the MPAA has told the folks behind BEREAVEMENT that their poster is unacceptable. View it below to judge for yourself.
Yeah, a little kid holding a knife really set off alarms. It’s back to the drawing board for the filmmakers, who are now faced with the inconvenience of spending more of their limited budget on a new promotional one-sheet.
BEREAVEMENT is a prequel to MALEVOLENCE. Keep in mind that the original went straight to DVD, so it’s not like you’re going to see this poster hanging up at every movie theater. Here’s the plot – but be warned that it also describes a scary kid!
In 1989, six year old Martin Bristoll was kidnapped from his backyard swing in Minersville Pennsylvania. Graham Sutter, a psychotic recluse, kept Martin imprisoned on his derelict pig farm, forcing him to witness and participate in unspeakable horror. Chosen at random, his victim’s screams were drowned out by the rural countryside. For five years, Martin’s whereabouts have remained a mystery, until 17 year old Allison Miller (Alexandra Daddario) comes to live with her Uncle, Jonathan (Michael Biehn). While exploring her new surroundings, Allison discovers things aren’t quite right at the farmhouse down the road. Her curiosity disturbs a hornet’s nest of evil and despair that once torn open, can never be closed.
Stevan Mena returns to write and direct. The cast includes Alexandra Daddario (below), Nolan Funk, Michael Biehn, John Savage, Spencer List, and Brett Rickaby. Barring any further setbacks, the movie will see the light of day in 2011.
