After his last directorial effort tanked hard and his last producing gig did a decent enough job, everyone’s been wondering what M. Night Shyamalan will be working on next. Now personally I’ve got nothing against Shyamalan, hell I enjoy most of his work. But it’s no secret the man has a lot of haters out there, so I find it kind of interesting that people are still very interested in his next project even though they claim to despise the man and his work. Regardless of how you feel about Shyamalan, the man is still working. And today we actually have a nice little update on what his next project is!
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog Shyamalan’s next project will be a sci-fi flick that’s being produced by none other than Will Smith! What? How the hell did that happen?! Well you see Shyamalan’s sci-fi project, which is rocking the title ONE THOUSAND A.E., is set up at Smith’s Overbrook shingle. The actor will be producing ONE THOUSAND A.E. through that with partners James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz and Jada Pinkett Smith. But that’s not all!
Unlike almost all of his other work, Shyamalan (above) will be directing from a script he didn’t write! Maybe the man is finally thinking outside the box. The writing credit on ONE THOUSAND A.E. belongs to Gary Whitta, who penned THE BOOK OF ELI and the upcoming film UNDYING. Apparently the project is being set-up as a starring vehicle for Smith’s acting son Jaden Smith. Interesting.
Unfortunately no solid plot details have been released yet. The only thing we do know is that there’s also a starring role for an adult male and it’s doubtful Will Smith will fill that role.
One could speculate the A.E. in the title is in regards to After Earth. That’s a fair assumption but that’s basically all we can gather here. The possibilites on this one can go anywhere! So with that in mind you’re going to want to keep checking back for more on ONE THOUSAND A.E. as we hear it!
