I’m a late ’80s/early ’90s kid so it’s no surprise I was once a big fan of R.L. Stine’s popular young adult novel series “Goosebumps.” Hell you guys know you were hardcore fans as well! Those things were like crack! So it’s with that in mind that I come here today to tell you there’s been a new writer tapped with the task of adapting this series for the big screen!
I say a new writer because Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander had previously been given the task when Columbia snatched up the rights to the franchise back in May 2008. Now obviously things didn’t work out because according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business blog Columbia have gone and tapped a whole new writer for the project. So who’s tackling this shite now? DISTURBIA scribe Carl Ellsworth, that’s who! Some of the writer’s previous works include RED EYE, THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake, the upcoming RED DAWN remake and of course, DISTURBIA. So you can go ahead and take that for what it’s worth…
Unfortunately there’s no telling exactly what this film will be about. Will it be based on a specific entry in the “Goosebumps” franchise or something that centers on the series itself? Right now your guess is as good as mine as to what Columbia have planned but what we do know is that the studio is planning a family-driven potential franchise. Works for me.
