So Nimrod Antal’s PREDATORS hit theaters a few days ago and pretty much owned everyone who saw it. Now I keep hearing about these mixed reviews but it seems the positive ones easily outweigh the negative. Combine that with the flick’s $25 million opening and I’d say we have a success!
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t things from the film that got fans kind of upset. One of the most notable things was the fact that the shot you see above was nowhere to be found in the film. A shot from the trailer, which arguably got a lot of people excited about watching this group of humans battle a mess-load of Predators, was MIA in the film. Why is this? Well word spreads quick on this here internet so the guys over at MTV took it upon themselves to ask producer Robert Rodriguez that exact question:
“You don’t want people to always know. A lot of my movies have trailer shots that I shoot just for the trailer, so that people haven’t seen the movie already but they get the feeling of what it’s supposed to represent. It’s kind of a good twist to do that. If you go and you think that’s what it’s going to be, and then it’s not that and it ends up happening in another place in the movie.”
Alright, I understand where Rodriguez is coming from but when the shot in particular is the reason a lot of people get stoked for the flick it feels like removing it is kind of a cheat, no? Alas at least we’ve got some clarification on what happened to the multiple-laser shot so you can all rest easy now. If you haven’t had a chance to check out PREDATORS yet, what’re you waiting for?!
