Peter Jackson negotiating to direct The Hobbit

I hope this ends up being true. Not because I have a ton invested in the HOBBIT films, but mostly because I just want the “will he or won’t he?” debate to end once and for all.

So it goes that we’re getting some more reports – from two different sources – saying Peter Jackson is in negotiations to direct THE HOBBIT, which should make most Middle Earth fans thrilled. The director has been trying his best to hand the reins over to someone else (Guiillermo del Toro dropped out, David Yates and Neill Blomkamp were being considered), but it’s obvious that MGM and New Line only have eyes for Jackson.

Evidently, Jackson is in the midst of preparing two separate films, but it looks as though he’s willing to put those aside to devote another chunk of his life to bringing J.R.R. Tolkien’s world back to the big screen. He co-wrote the screenplays and will produce along with his partners Fran Walsh and Phillippa Boyens. (It remains to be seen if del Toro will receive a writing credit.)

According to Deadline.com, Jackson and his team will be flying to London and Los Angeles next week to meet with actors, as auditions have steadily been going on for some time. Could an official announcement and/or presentation at Comic-Con be in the wings? Time will tell…

Just f*cking hire somebody already, will ya?
