It was just last week that we got an update from writer Mark Smith regarding a few genre projects he’s got in the works. Those projects included a MARTYRS remake, a revenge flick that has Christian Bale potentially starring and the untitled creature feature from Platinum Dunes and Room 101 that we first told you about back in the middle of May.
Unfortunately Smith didn’t divulge much regarding the latter so the guys over at Bloody-Disgusting dropped the VACANCY writer a message asking what the deal was with the mysterious genre project:
“I was playing around with something post-apocalyptic, and Steven Schneider gave me a nugget of an idea involving some genetic work gone terribly wrong. So I took part of his idea and combined it with the world I wanted to explore… and we ended up with this story…. It’s a little more sci-fi and thought provoking. There are also a lot of twists and turns in this story as opposed to a Vacancy, where a couple is trapped in a motel room, or The Hole where a pair of brothers find a bottomless pit in their basement that holds their darkest fears. Those were a little more straight-forward. This new one taps into some different emotions.”
Alright, so we’re still not given much to go on.. But at least it’s something right? Hopefully some more details on this untitled sci-fi romp pop up soon.
Smith also talks a bit more about the genre and the search for directors for the project. To check out the whole interview, head right over HERE. As soon as we hear more on the project we’ll be sure to pass along the good word to all of you!
