As you might imagine, news on this here Memorial Monday is quite a slog. No wonder then why I’m bringing you news relating to the not so sexy business side of filmmaking. You see, it appears U.K. distributor Optimum Releasing has just secured the rights to Kim Ji-Woon’s South Korean chiller I SAW THE DEVIL, a flick for which we saw the teaser trailer just last week.
Ji-Woon, whose previous writing/directing credits include THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WEIRD and A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, focuses his new outing on:
Kyung-chul, a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. He has committed infernal serial murders in diabolic ways that one cannot even imagine and his victims range from young women to even children. The police have chased him for a long time, but were unable to catch him. One day, Joo-yeon, daughter of a retired police chief becomes his prey and is found dead in a horrific state.
Her fiance Dae-hoon, a top secret agent, decides to track down the murderer himself. He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take bloody vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself to get this monstrous and inhumane killer.
Sounds pretty rad, eh? Add to that premise OLDBOY himself, Choi Min-Sik, as well as international up and comer Lee Byung-hun and this flick could be among the best foreign horror has to offer in 2010.
I SAW THE DEVIL washes over its native land this summer, and now that Optimum has added to its catalogue, stay tuned for worldwide release dates soon.
