Just the other day we got our first look at Jon Favreau’s COWBOYS & ALIENS. The only problem was… we didn’t exactly know who we were looking at. Early speculation just had some dude dressed as a cowboy for some early test shots. Well it seems that wasn’t just any cowboy…
Favreau recently chatted it up with Collider and spilled the details on the mysterious image. Is it star Daniel Craig underneath that cowboy hat?
“That’s him. We couldn’t really show too much because he didn’t want to reveal any images on Twitter but I wanted to kind of get a sense of the feel of it. He’s also somebody who plays an iconic figure that has a long tradition. So to have him playing a cowboy, I feel very good now having shot him and worked with him and hearing his thoughts. And the whole cast is great. With each person we add, the enthusiasm grows, with Rockwell and [Paul] Dano, of course Harrison. So far it’s great. The only thing that’s scary is we’re going to be shooting soon.”
So there you have it. For some reason now that we know that shot is of Daniel Craig it makes it a bigger deal, don’t you think? Dare I say COWBOYS & ALIENS is already looking badass? Favreau goes on to talk a little bit more about the film, commenting on Robert Downey Jr.’s departure in favor of SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 and talking a little about THE Harrison Ford. 1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.
COWBOYS & ALIENS, which stars Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde (below), Harrison Ford, Paul Dano, Clancy Brown, Noah Ringer, Keith Carradine and Heavy D, should start filming soon with a release date of July 29th, 2011 already pegged. As always be sure to keep it here for more as we hear it.
