New script review for The Thing prequel, a look inside Ronald D. Moore’s vision

The name that keeps popping up all over THE THING prequel’s script is Eric Heisserer, but he’s not the only one who put his heart and soul into creating a vision of the Norwegian base camp in Antarctica that is ravaged by a an alien ‘thing’ after extracting it from its frozen spaceship. The other dude is Ronald D. Moore, and it’s his script that received the initial green light.

The good folks over at Coming Attractions got a hold of THE THING prequel’s script and took a look at what it all entails, giving us enough details as to what to expect without being entirely spoilery. I mean, how can you spoil a movie in which you know exactly how it will end?

Check out an excerpt from the review: We’ll get to see the inside of The Thing’s saucer as well as a hint as to what it may have been doing in there. The otherworldly-ness of the saucer’s insides was described well by Moore and I hope will remain intact in the finished product. Alas, if there’s a major flaw in Moore’s story it’s that it doesn’t add anything new. We’ve seen this same story played out in the Carpenter movie; we watch the characters discover what the threat is they’re up against and then paranoia sets in amongst them as they freak out about who’s not really human anymore.

In other words, we’ll get to see new things like the inside of the space ship (if it remains in the movie), but otherwise it’s the same ol’ paranoia throughout the base-camp, which I suppose is to be expected, but still somewhat of a bummer to know that while it’s a prequel, it’ll still sort of play out like a remake.
