You were there, just admit it. The tens of hundreds of “New Moon at Midnight” parties held throughout the country this past Friday night in anticipation of the release of NEW MOON on DVD and Blu-ray. You joined a shit-ton of other fans out there, met some of the stars of the film while you were in line in Salt Lake City, UT, the director and an actress in Los Angeles, CA, and other stars (all second-rate, btw) in New York, Phoenix, Cincinnati, Denver, Seattle, and Pittsburgh. It was a big event… and it appears to have paid off.

According to Summitt Entertainment, NEW MOON sold more than 4 million units of NEW MOON on DVD / Blu-ray in its first weekend of release, beating out TWILIGHT‘s first weekend sales numbers of 3.8 million units. TWILIGHT, by the way, went on to be the highest selling DVD that year with more than 9.2 million units sold.

Summit is doing flips over this, and Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger went on to kiss the ass of their fanbase with this statement: “Once again the incredibly dedicated fans of the ‘Twilight Saga’ came out in massive numbers this weekend for the opportunity to be one of the first take home the second movie in the series. As we have said all along, the fans are what make this franchise and we once again thank them for their support.”

NEW MOON has made (worldwide) a total of $705M. Yes, it’s a sad world we live in. And while you’re being depressed, go ahead and order NEW MOON ON BLU-RAY RIGHT HERE, I’m sure it’ll cheer you up and make you feel fluffy inside. Then go stand in line for the ECLIPSE DVD release party, which will probably happen this coming November.

It’s all about snagging NEW MOON on a bootleg DVD…
