Director Ti West is really shaping up to be one of the big young names in the genre. Sure, his work thus far has received a mixed batch of reactions but for the most part it’s seemed pretty positive. I’m talking about West’s most recent flicks THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and CABIN FEVER 2: SPRING FEVER. Now West has gone and completely disowned the latter while HOUSE OF THE DEVIL has got on pretty well. So what’s next for West?
A flick called THE INNKEEPERS, which essentially seems to be about a haunted hotel. A haunted hotel with relatable humor, a group of likeable characters and ‘scary-scary’ shite happening. …. No that’s not a joke. FearNET recently caught up with the director at the South by Southwest Film Festival and asked him about THE INNKEEPERS. Check it out from West himself:
“….. It actually takes place in the hotel we were staying in while shooting The House of the Devil. It’s about a lot of my experiences there. So as similar as The House of the Devil is in the same kind of suspense fear terror scary kind of stuff, I think it will be scarier, but there’s a lot more talking in the movie. This is more of a group of people, so it will be similar in the sense that there will be these really intense, slow-paced scary scenes that are hopefully suspenseful and scary. But there will also be a lot of relatable humor, and my feeling is that if you like the movie, you would watch it again because of the people you like in the movie, not because of the scary stuff. But I do plan on it being ‘scary-scary’.”
That actually sounds pretty cool. So it’s sort of like a mix between HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and CABIN FEVER 2? Well sh*t I’m down! What about you guys? You behind West’s THE INNKEEPERS? Whether you liked the dude’s previous work or not it’s hard to judge the guy on one film, and another he tried to distance himself from. Not much to base your judgement on, is it? So let’s keep our hopes high for THE INNKEEPERS. At least for now of course…
