Ah, Sam Worthington. A year ago, just an Aussie dreamer living out of his car. Today, not only a lucrative beneficiary of AVATAR, the dude is fielding offers left and right as Hollywood’s it-boy. But the question remains, does the man have the balls to shed the blue pigmentation and launch back into space as DAN DARE: PILOT OF THE FUTURE?
According to Pajiba, Worthington is indeed attached to bring the Eagle Comics character of Dan Dare to the big-screen. It’s mad early in the development, so should be treated as mere rumor-ish territory for now (if not, we run the risk of a Worthington-as-Flash-Gordon fall through as we’ve seen previously). However, Warner Bros. does have the rights to the project and seems to be currently shopping around for a writer and director to adapt the comic to film.
Dan Dare, despite thriving through various mediums (radio, cartoon, PC games, etc.), has stalled when it comes to filmic adaptations. For two years or so the project has been in development purgatory, despite Virgin Comics buying the rights to the flick around that time.

Dan Dare (full name Colonel Daniel McGregor Dare) is a British science fiction comic hero, created by illustrator Frank Hampson. Hampson not only invented Dan Dare and his entire world, he also put together the original team of artists and wrote the first two stories.
Dan Dare was chief pilot of the Interplanet Space Fleet. He was born in Manchester, England, in 1967 and educated at Rossall School.[1] Although not a super-hero, he sometimes pulled off exceptional piloting and often proved extraordinarily lucky. He excelled at jiu jitsu, but he most often found non-violent solutions to predicaments. He was bound by a sense of honour, never lied, and would rather die than break his word.
Non-violent solutions? Something tells me the Marine Jake Scully will have a few words to say about that!
