The last we heard about Anthony Mandler’s VLAD came way back in December, when we learned that there’d be no vampirism in the film. Perhaps that’s not the way Summit wants to go after all…
News coming in from The Hollywood Reporter has screenwriter Scott Kosar coming on board the film to basically re-tool Charlie Hunnam’s script with Mandler overlooking. Where is this coming from? We don’t hear anything on the VLAD front for two months now suddenly there’s a new writer?
Now The Reporter doesn’t mention any reasoning behind this new development but one can speculate Summit does indeed want to add some fanged baddies to the mix. It’s understandable considering that whole TWILIGHT thing, Hunnam not wanting to add vampirism to the script and Koser’s previous credits, which are THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake, THE MACHINIST and this month’s THE CRAZIES, which hits theaters February 26th.
Throw all that into a blender and this move actually makes sense. But will adding actual vampires make this shite better? I say nay! I don’t know about you guys but I’d be all for an origins tale of ‘Vlad the Impaler,’ minus the ‘vampires.’ What says you? Would you rather see VLAD filled with vampires or were you content with the vampire-less tale of the young prince? Hopefully we find out soon exactly what tweaks Kosar is adding to the script.
