Hard to believe Joe Johnston’s THE WOLFMAN is just over a month away isn’t it? This thing has had it’s fair share of problems to say the least… from directors dropping out to huge delays to re-shoots. Well that’s all put behind us come February 12th!
But before we get there it seems WOLFMAN producer Scott Stuber has some things to get off his chest. Things concerning reshoots and CGI…. So needless to say Stuber gave a pretty interesting interview to Total Film Magazine and the guys over at Dread Central were kind enough to pass along the excerpts for us all to check out:
“The visual effects work was so complex that some of the stuff wasn’t ready. There were so many textures we had to create, like landscapes of London and all the elements within the London sequence; they just weren’t where they needed to be.
It was never our intention for this to be a CGI-fest. Our whole thing was to honor Lon Chaney, Jr., and the spirit of the original. It’s an authentic, make-up-driven film, but there are transitional pieces that we needed to do in CG, so you didn’t have to cut away during the change in the monster. Integrating the make-up and the effects to make them feel like one cohesive whole was always going to be a challenge, and it’s something we’ve had to work through.
We needed one more piece between Benicio (Del Toro) and Emily (Blunt). We added a new scene during the post-bite, pre-transformation sequence when he’s starting to realize something’s wrong. It’s a big quality piece of entertainment. It’s beautiful, rich, Gothic, tragic – it’s everything you hope it would be.”
Interesting, right? Well at least we’ve finally got some insight as to what’s going on behind the scenes of THE WOLFMAN. I’m sure we’re in for a lot more of that furry bastard before the film’s February 12th release date so be sure to keep it here for updates!
