This past week the beautiful and talented Brittany Murphy passed away and that has prompted RedBox to remove all artwork for one of Murphy’s latest films: DEADLINE.
The artwork for the supernatural thriller showcases Murphy in a bathrub, assumingly lifeless. Well that’s a little too close to home considerring Murphy was found dead in her bathroom just weeks after the film’s release. So Redbox have decided to start removing all art for the film from 19,000 kiosks across the country. DEADLINE will also receive new cover art for distribution.
So what do you guys think? You think this is a classy act on Redbox’s part and should be done or do you think this is a bit too sensitive? I’m definitely thinking this is the right thing to do. Why taint the actress’ death with such a morbid irony to one of her last films? Redbox will have field teams removing the artwork for the next week.
DEADLINE is currently sitting in my Netflix queue and follows a screenwriter who travels to an abandoned house to finish a script on time, but a series of strange events lead her to a psychological breakdown. The film comes from writer/director Sean McConville and, along with Murphy, stars Thora Birch, Tammy Blanchard and Marc Blucas.
Thanks for all the laughs Brittany… Rest in peace.
