With THE LOVELY BONES now in theaters, and THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN on the horizon, we wonder what might be next for Peter Jackson. Of course, he’s producing THE HOBBIT for Guillermo Del Toro, but no one is yet sure what project will get the man into the director’s chair again. New Zealand’s Dominion Post thinks it knows, and if true, it sounds like a trip and a half.
According to the site, Jackson is secretly adapting Philip Reeve’s MORTAL ENGINES. The book is the first in a series of four novels dubbed “The Hungry City Chronicles”, which are set in a post-apocalyptic world where cities have become giant vehicles and must consume each other to survive.
Bizarre. A spokesman for Jackson did not deny the project was on the books yesterday, but said “any comment should come from Peter”. Jackson has owned the rights to the books for some time, says Dominion. We’ll see if this pans out – consider it a “maybe” for now.
