The holidays are upon us and these times bring all kinds of things that make us feel warm inside. Snow, crowded stores, insane traffic, empty wallets and cheery music everywhere you turn. Oh such a wonderful time of year… But at least there’s one thing out there that should always cheer you up around this time… Alcohol. Well alcohol and genre holiday flicks!
You know exactly what I’m talking about. You’ve got the option of watching A CHRISTMAS STORY for the millionth time in your life or this Christmas you can pop in SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT… is there even a choice here? It’s with that outlook that I come to you today to tell you all about a new holiday genre flick heading our way from Finnish director Jalmari Helander called RARE EXPORTS. Oh rare exports indeed…
You see back in 2003 Helander put together a short film called RARE EXPORTS INC that dealt with a bunch of guys who hiked across snowy mountains tracking down old Saint Nick. Two years later he came out with a sequel called THE OFFICIAL RARE EXPORTS INC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 2005, which dealt with the aftermath of abusing Father Christmas. And now Helander is putting the whole thing together and gearing up to bring us a RARE EXPORTS feature! And the teaser trailer just hit the net! Intrigued? Of course you are! Here’s the official synopsis for RARE EXPORTS: In the depths of the Korvatunturi mountains, 486 metres deep, lies the closest ever guarded secret of Christmas. The time has come to dig it up! Oh yeah! These dudes are digging up the real Santa Claus! The Facebook page claims RARE EXPORTS will be released March 12th but I’m going to go ahead and assume that’s for it’s native Finland. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one and will update you all once we learn when it’ll hit the rest of the world!
