Pyun does 3D Vamps

Director Albert Pyun recently tackled a western horror flick called LEFT FOR DEAD that isn’t looking half bad. Unfortunately this has nothing to do with the popular video game LEFT 4 DEAD. Shame. But I’m not here to talk about either of those…. No today I feel like talking about 3D vampires!

There’s a vampire craze that’s been sweeping Hollywood for a couple years now… and it’s no secret there’s a 3D phase set to hit us hard in the next few years… So why not put the two together?! That’s exactly what Albert Pyun plans to do! The director recently updated his MySpace blog with a couple updates on the project:

The New Film

We are beginning the early stages of prep next week on a new film and will begin shooting January 2. And yes it revolves around vampires. But not the way you’d imagine. I can’t say much yet except its a hybrid of genres and will likely be shot in 3D. It’s definitely going to be somewhat experimental — if you can imagine a movie like Tales crossed with Run Lola Run. Female and Male leads, more romantic with a cluster of superhuman villains trying to wreck their relationship. It’s yet “Untitled” until all the agreements are finalized this week.

More to follow.

The New Film: Part Two

The film we’re starting next week was written by Cynthia Curnan and has as its inspiration the O. Henry short story “Roads of Destiny”. She uses ideas of inevitable destiny and how we are continuously determined to control our fate. Our Heroine and Hero fight desperately to avoid their seemingly preordained outcomes in 80 minutes.

Its going to be a very kinetically shot film and told in almost real time. We have been casting and this film will feature a young cast of unknowns but most with Parkour / Circus de Soleil physicality and skills. That gives you an idea of just how kinetic the film will be. All about frenetic
movement and fluid chaos.

It asks and answers the questions — can we change our fate…and should we?

Albert

Vampires but not what we’d imagine? Experimental? More romantic with a cluster of superhuman villains? What the hell is Pyun talking about?! I get the feeling this 3D vampire adventure isn’t going to be anything near what we’d expect from a 3D vampire adventure. Now is that good or bad? So many questions with no answers. We’ll be keeping an eye on Pyun’s Untitled project so be sure to keep it here for updates as we hear them!
