Just last week we got an update on James McTeigue’s THE RAVEN and learned the flick is actually going to be about a serial killer being tracked by Edgar Allen Poe during his last days. Not much to do with Poe’s RAVEN huh? Well that’s not all folks!
McTeigue recently chatted it up with SciFi Wire as well where he gave a lot more information on what we can expect with the killings in THE RAVEN: “It’s sort of Se7en meets a series of Poe stories. It’s set in 1850s Baltimore, and it’s about creating Poe’s version of 1850s Baltimore, him moving through it. So it has a lot of the Poe stories interwoven into it.”
The director explains that the deaths in the film will shadow various works of Poe’s including stuff from “‘The Raven,’ ‘Tell-Tale Heart,’ ‘Premature Burial,’ ‘Murders in the Rue Morgue,'” and “The Cask of Amontillado.” Now in case you’re unfamiliar with the work of Edgar Allen Poe, his deaths are… rather unconventional. When I say unconventional I mean f*cked up! The stuff that goes hand in hand with the whole ‘torture porn’ groove we just got out of.
So lets get this straight… in THE RAVEN we’ve got a psychopath running around recreating deaths straight from the work of Edgar Allen Poe and he wants Poe himself to try and track him down? Nice! That’s a pretty twisted idea, no? Sign me up!
