A really interesting article popped up over at Variety where Bob Weinstein talks about his plans to release a host of genre flicks through Dimension in the next year. The kicker? All these flicks are major remakes/sequels to classic films!
First up we’ve got SCREAM IV. We knew about that… but according to this article Neve Campbell is in fact signed on! Wait? Seriously? Last we heard Campbell was standing her ground and choosing not to participate. Could she have changed her mind or is this just a typo? Let’s hope the actress smartened up and has decided to return! It’s also reported that the Weinsteins are talking to Wes Craven to direct. No surprise there.
Other film’s included in the article were sequels to SCANNERS, SHORT CIRCUIT, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN PARIS and HELLRAISER. Now the article makes it seem like we’re talking sequels here…. but I’m pretty sure some, if not all, of those films will be remakes. The HELLRAISER and SCANNERS films will also be in 3-D. Included on the remake slate is CHILDREN OF THE CORN and lastly we’ve got SPY KIDS IV and HALLOWEEN 3, both in 3-D.
Well that’s a lot to take in one shot… Remakes… sequels… whatever… Are they really tackling all these franchises? Apparently so. Weinstein states: “I’m heading back to my franchise films. These films are our strength and we are committed to doing them in style.” So there you have it. We also find out HALLOWEEN 3 will be released in October 2010 and THE ROAD is looking at a limited release on November 25th.
