Beautiful Girl sets date

Have you guys been following this newly announced genre flick BEAUTIFUL GIRL? It actually sounds pretty damn sweet! Plus, it’s got a highly touted, Pulitzer prized-winning writer behind it (Michael Cunningham of THE HOURS, right). Pretty cool stuff, huh? Well, wait till you get a load of the plot:

The story concerns a shy but brainy high school girl who returns for senior year after having slimmed down six dress sizes. She finds herself flirting with the handsome English lit teacher, but the mutual crush turns deadly when the teacher’s obsession with the student compels him to exact maniacal revenge on everyone who was cruel to her.

This is the kind of story that I can really get into. It’s nice to see that GIRL has now been given an official release date to help solidify its transition to the big screen. The date is set for March 11, 2011. Sure that does seem like quite a ways off, but keep in mind that Cunningham still has to write the flick. Screen Gems hasn’t even chosen a director yet. Of course, I’ll be keeping my eyes open for any future announcements as they come up.
