If you’re like many of the fans out there waiting for the possibility of a third GHOSTBUSTERS movie, creator/star Dan Aykroyd sat down with The L.A. Times recently, who straight up asked him about it: is GHOSTBUSTER 3 going to happen? The short answer? Yes. Yes it is.
Now that there’s a new script by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (the writer’s of Harold Ramis’ upcoming YEAR ONE) about a new generation of Ghostbusters taking over the duties of the aging team, things are shaping up, with Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson all agreeing to come back for the third entry.
Are you dying to know what Aykroyd thinks of the “new generation” of GHOSTBUSTERS concept? Here’s his take: I’d like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie. Let’s revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let’s pass it on to a new generation.
Cool beans. So while nothing is official yet, according to THIS INTERVIEW this could blow up any minute, and could start filming as early as this winter. So really it’s just a matter of time before it’s totally greenlit and ready to go.
I’m not quite sold on whether the world really needs a third GHOSTBUSTERS movie, a new GHOSTBUSTERS movie / franchise, as it was a wonderful product of the 80s and early 90s. But with today’s special effects, I guess it could end up being pretty cool.
