Preacher status

I’m not sure what to expect from Sam Mendes’ PREACHER film, but I think it’s a pretty cool pairing of gritty material and a director who is just probably itching to do something really different. Mendes has made interesting films (I’m a big fan of his under-appreciated ROAD TO PERDITION) and none-too-interesting ones (REVOLUTIONARY ROAD was a lame letdown) but he hasn’t tackled anything quite like the story of PREACHER, which follows a possessed preacher on a quest to find god while battling all sorts of evil beings.

So how far along is the adaptation, which is being written by John August (CHARLIE’S ANGELS)? Mendes told MTV that the script is about halfway completed. Also, there might be more than just one PREACHER film on the horizon: “You have to try and get one really good and then, if you’re lucky, you can make a second or a third… You can create something that’s going to run. But I think that there’s certainly more than enough for one good movie and plenty left over.”

To read more from Mendes on the topic, head on over HERE. Do we have any big PREACHER fans around here? How do you feel about Mendes being attached to the project? Are you psyched for the flick? Weigh in below.
