Are you a fan of zombie movies? Ha! Of course you are. And for that you have one Mr. George A. Romero to thank. Romero is the godfather of the undead. It’s no secret the legend is hard at work with his upcoming project, currently titled …OF THE DEAD. But the news we have for you today is on some different Romero projects.
You’re probably wondering exactly what I’m talking about. Well today Dread Central got word on Romero’s involvement on two upcoming installements to his DEAD franchise! Ready for the kicker? These’ll be novels written by Romero! Oh that has me feeling all giddy inside.
That last bit had no sarcasm in it. This is some pretty exciting news. Romero pretty much missed with LAND OF THE DEAD and bounced between ‘great’ and ‘meh ok’ with DIARY OF THE DEAD. After he completes …OF THE DEAD the father of the living dead will go back to the beginning, laying down the ground rules of the zombie epidemic right from the beginning of the end. That’s what we’re looking at with the first novel.
Romero is currently in talks with Grand Central Publishing of New York to finalize this deal. Grand Central are looking at a Summer 2010 release of that first novel with the second following shortly after. Personally I’m a big fan of Brian Keene’s THE RISING/CITY OF THE DEAD saga… but for some reason I’m thinking Romero might just top those. We shall see.
