S. Darko bunny suit

I’m so torn on the subject of all things S. DARKO: A DONNIE DARKO TALE. The trailer for it really ain’t half bad and does pique my curiosity. And the cast is composed of some pretty competent actors: Daveigh Chase (actually returning as the original all-grown-up S.(amantha) Darko), Jackson Rathbone, Ed Westwick, Briana Evigan, Elizabeth Berkley, James Lafferty, and Matthew Davis. I’m even strangely drawn to that new bunny costume pic up top. Does that mean “Frank” is back? Or is this some new long-eared foreseer?

However, 2001’s DONNIE DARKO was so synonymous, so original, so cool, how the hell could you possibly even match it, let alone top it? The fact that the film is going straight to DVD doesn’t help. Plus, why exactly would another bunny-man come to Donnie’s sister. She never knew Frank. I guess either director Chris Fisher and writer Nathan Atkins found an interestingly creative way to bring all of this together for a second go-round… or they’re merely trying to cash in on a bunch of ideas and imagery that already has a built-in following.

I’m sure many of you, my fellow AITH-ers, have your own strong opinions on this matter. I can only hope that the filmmakers are keeping the DARKO fans’ best interests at heart. We’ll all find out on April 28th when the DVD is released. For more stills like the one up top, simply click over to the official website here and drag your curser all the way to the left.
