Well a name very much affiliated with this great genre of ours would be that of H.P. Lovecraft. The man’s work is legendary and most of it is pretty f*cking twisted. If you’re a fan of Lovecraft’s than the following news should have you itching with excitement!

Variety got word today that Universal and Imagine Entertainement have secured the rights to graphic novel THE STRANGE ADVENTURES OF H.P. LOVECRAFT. But that’s not all! They’re looking at Ron Howard to direct! You heard me right folks. Ron Howard could very well be directing a film based on H.P. Lovecraft’s life! If that isn’t a headtwister I don’t know what is! But I’m definitely down for it!

Apparently what drew Universal to the project was the fact that they’ve got an impressive library of monster projects including names like Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfman already so this fits right in. Now what’s this graphic novel I’m talking about? Well it’s created by Mac Carter and Jeff Blitz and is set to hit shelves in a couple weeks on April 8th. The comic borrows elements from Lovecraft’s life, such as his family’s struggle with mental illness and his own bouts with writer’s block, and transforms the young writer’s darkest nightmares into reality when he comes across a book that puts a curse on him and lets the evils he conjures up loose on the world.

Carter and Blitz will be executive producing with Carter also penning the script. Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are producing while shingle’s senior VP David Bernardi and director of development Chris Wade are co-producing. So there you have it! Ron Howard and Universal are setting up to bring us Lovecraft’s world! We’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear more. So who’ll play the legendary writer?
