After the successful weekend of RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, Disney decided to give director Andy Fickman another chance at directing, this time on the big screen adaptation of the 2007 graphic novel MONSTER ATTACK NETWORK by Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman.
For those of you at home wondering just what the hell this is, here’s a little taste: a team of first-responders guard the citizens of Lapuatu, a Pacific island that would be a paradise except for frequent attacks by giant monsters that rise from the sea.
Cool man, I can dig it. Disney also has an idea for the film, which goes a little something like this: a visual effects-heavy tentpole built around an elite government agency’s resolve to protect America’s coasts from huge, rampaging monsters.
Which is pretty much the same thing, except the movie will be protecting the entire country from monsters, and not just some random Pacific island. Monsters are fun, but for some reason, they’re beginning to be a little too family friendly for their own good. Sure, this sounds like they could be scary, but it’s Disney, so you know it’s gonna be weaksauce. Same with the upcoming MONSTERS VS ALIENS. Why can’t we just have another hardcore monster movie???
Anyway, MONSTER ATTACK NETWORK may be a waste of our time, or it may turn into something kinda cool. Hard to tell at this point, but we’ll keep you updated until we figure it out.
