I’ll be the first one ot admit it: I f*cking love GOSSIP GIRL. There, I said it. It’s a guilty pleasure of trash television and I love every second of it. So when news out of The Hollywood Reporter was announced that GG (that’s what fans of the show call it) star Leighton Meester (aka Blair Waldorf) is now on-board a SINGLE WHITE FEMALE-style thriller, I couldn’t be more excited!
Written by one of the producers of THE STRANGERS, the flick’s called THE ROOMMATE, and it goes a little something like this: Sara (Meester), a college student, is randomly assigned to a freshman dorm with a stranger named Rebecca. Things turn deadly when Rebecca becomes obsessed and begins targeting people in Sara’s life.
We’ve all had a crazy roommate (or we’ve been the crazy roommate) at one time or another, but probably not the obssessed stalker kind. I’m not sure if the world is ready (or needing) another SWF flick, but then again, it’s a new generation, which means a new version of the same old thing. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing…
Newcomer Christian E. Christiansen is set to direct with Sony’s Screen Gems distributing. Stick around for more updates on THE ROOMMATE (like who will be playing the crazy bitch) as we hear it! Oh, and watch GOSSIP GIRL Monday nights on the CW. You won’t be disappointed.
