It certainly takes a sick mind to dream up villains that prey on young children in their sleep or sadistically kidnap and butcher two teenage girls. Thankfully, Wes Craven (up top) decided to use his mind for making great horror flicks instead of acting out his ideas in the real world. The man certainly has given birth to some baddie greats. And perhaps, he’s on his way to bringing yet one more into our genre world.
Last week, our bad ass newsman, Jimmy O, scored some great info from Craven on his upcoming fright flick 25/8. The film seems to have one very interesting plot and after hearing Craven’s words during a panel discussion from last week, it may also have one very cool villain! Craven was conversing about the relationship between art and film, and offered up some subtle clues about the main antagonist of 25/8:
“We had a talented storyboard artist. We were doing an additional shoot and I said to my wife Iya, who’s the producer, I still don’t quite know what the bad guy looks like. Let’s get a conceptual artist. We [described] this is where the man comes from. He’s kind of a figure who lives under the river, sleeps under the bridges, deep in the woods – he’s been that way for sixteen years. Eats bark. And [the artist] came back the next day with this fabulous rendering he did in Photoshop. Everybody sparked off of that and all of the special effects makeup artists started to pool around it.”
Sounds pretty depraved and sweet! I just hope this bad guy isn’t into rape. Craven’s literally done that act to death. Personally, it’s my least favorite horror act to watch on screen (I’m sure many agree). Anyways, some peeps are thinking 25/8 may be a big “return to form” for ol’ Wes who hasn’t released a true, all-out horror offering since 2005’s shitty CURSED.
