About the time REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA was in production, another movie involving the repossession of human organs was in process as well–a higher profile pic called REPOSSESSION MAMBO, starring Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, and Alice Braga (below).
While a release date for MAMBO hasn’t been set yet, the MPAA just fired off a rating for the film, which scored a nice, meaty R rating for strong bloody violence, grisly images, language and some sexuality/nudity. Which, similarly enough, are some ofthe same reasons why REPO! scored its R rating as well. Interesting…,
As a recap, MAMBBO (based on the novel by Eric Garcia) is set in the near future when artificial organs can be bought on credit, it revolves around a man who struggles to make the payments on a heart he has purchased. He must therefore go on the run before said ticker is repossessed.
In a way, it works as a nice spin-off to REPO!, following the story of people who can’t make the payments, and not the Repo Man. I can dig it. Plus, you can bet your ass that there won’t be any singing involved here either, which for all intents and purposes, is a very good thing.
Now all we have to wait for is the release date, which I can only assume is just haning above the horizon. Stick around as we find out!
