Who would have ever suspected that the TWILIGHT series would be the next HARRY POTTER of page to screen blockbuster adaptations? With NEW MOON already scheduled to hit theaters this November, it was only a matter of time when the third book, ECLIPSE, was announced. Though, to tell you the truth, I’m a bit surprised it’s happening before MOON’s release (the announcement, not the release date).
According to Variety, Summitt Entertainment has officially announced that ECLIPSE will be hitting theaters June 30, 2010. That’s right, just 7 months after MOON’s release, moving the series from a holiday success to a (hopeful) summer blockbuster.
Ballsy move for the most part, as they’re a) assuming MOON will be successful, and b) assuming it’ll be as successful in June as it would in November, even though movies released in those two months are generally pretty different (unless, of course, you’re HARRY POTTER).
But really, what it comes down to, is that we won’t have to wait until November 2010 for this f*cker to come out, which means the hoopla and the hype will be over much sooner. And I, for one, am grateful for that.
