You have a MySpace right? And a Facebook? And a MyFaceBook? Or Twitter or whatever the new craze is. These internet sites that offer social networking are insanely popular. Everybody knows about them and most of those people have one. Whether it be for actual networking, staying in touch with old friends, or just looking for the next booty call… these sites are massive.
So let’s make a violent thriller about these sites! That’s the idea Dimension Films had today according to Variety. Dimension are working on an unnamed project in the vein of TEN LITTLE INDIANS. The movie will take place in a high school and deals with a teen social networking site where victims are taken down one by one in a Web 2.0 twist.
T.S. Faull will pen the script. Faull’s only other writing credits are GRIMM LOVE and the upcoming LIVING DEAD GIRL. Sara Rue, who came up with the idea, will be producing alongside Robert Green. Industry Entertainement’s Adam Goldworm will be co-producing. Here’s what Bob Weinstein had to say about the project:
“Online social networking is a widespread phenomenon that interests me greatly. Combining it with a suspense thriller is a new and fresh way to explore this new trend.”
T.S. Faull added: “Social networking is alluring, but one always takes a risk when engaging on these sites. Online identities can be deceptive.” He also said the movie will be about the dangerous consequences of the social networking situation currently sweeping the internet. This one seems like it’ll be a more computer-themed and in depth version of CRY_WOLF. Only time will tell. Keep it here for updates as we wait for more news on this project, like the title!
