Cirque du rating

The MPAA is at it again, slapping ratings onto a new set of movies, and determining the viewing fate of so many. Some could say their middle names are ‘censorship,’ while others would say they’re protecting America’s youth (those who say that are morons). So what’s new this week?

CIRQUE DU FREAK, starring John C. Reilly, Salma Hayek, Ken Watanabe, Josh Hutcherson, Patrick Fugit, Ray Stevenson, and Orlando Jones, is now officially rated PG-13 for sequences of intense supernatural violence and action, disturbing images, thematic elements and some language.

Considering it’s about a vampire who drafts a 14-year old to serve as his assistant. The youth is turned into a half-vampire and becomes the catalyst in a battle between vampires and the rival Vampanes, it’s really no surprise that it was slapped with a PG-13 rating, because… you know… it deals with a 14-year old and all. Luckily the film still features some supernatural violence and disturbing images. After THE UNBORN, I’ve learned that there are ways to really push that PG-13 rating… maybe FREAK will be one of them.

Still no word on the release date for CIRQUE DU FREAK, but as soon as it’s announced, you’ll be the first to know. In the meantime, fantasize about Hayek and stick around for more updates from the MPAA
