King disses Meyer

Stephen King is my all-time favorite author. I’ve read all of his books (sometimes two or three times), and have seen most of all of his movie adaptations. I don’t know what it is, but his style really talks to me and I simply can’t get enough. So when an icon like King brings up the subject of current pop author Stephanie Meyer, the author of the TWILIGHT series, my ears perk up just a bit. Not only do I dig his writing, but I also respect his opinion… and what an opinion he has!

Chatting it up with USA Today, the subject of Meyer and J.K Rowling (HARRY POTTER series) came up, and here’s a taste of what he had to say about them: Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. … The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.

I’m glad King has the balls to call Meyer out on this–and what is she gonna do, come back and say that he’s not a very good writer? Now that would be hilarious.

I haven’t read the TWILIGHT books mostly because a) I’m not a teenage girl, b) the whole phenomenon pisses me off, and c) more than half the people I know who have read them say they’re not very good. And now with King, it’s settled. I’m never wasting my time with that bullshit.

King also had other fun things to say about Meyer, including some of the reasons why he thinks her books are popular, which you can check out by heading over THIS WAY.
