UPDATE: Pascal Laugier himself dropped us a message to clear everything up regarding these pictures: “The stills of the new Pinhead you published on your site a few days ago have NOTHING TO DO with the official HELLRAISER reboot project I’m preparing. I never met Gary [Tunnicliffe] and although I respect him a lot, I want to be very clear about the fact that my vision of the character will be TOTALLY different.The new look of Pinhead is a VERY imortant matter to all of us.” Awesome news!
Are you stoked for the reboot of the HELLRAISER franchise? Me neither. This ‘re-imagining’ has been in the works for a while now. Not too long ago directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury got the boot and MARTYRS director Pascal Laugier stepped up. So maybe this means HELLRAISER will actually get going sometime soon.
Well when HELLRAISER FX alumn Gary J. Tunnicliffe heard they were remaking the project, he got intrigued. When he was never approached to return, he took it upon himself to create a ‘new age’ looking Pinhead. I kid you not. Tunnicliffe gave Pinhead a makeover and you can see what he came up with above and below.
What do you think? I can definitely see what Tunnicliffe was trying to do and I can actually see it working.. but I’m not for it. Give me classic Pinhead anyday! The dude has always been one of my favorite genre icons and I’m just not feeling this. Well if you feel the same way as I do, good news! This Pinhead, as of right now, has nothing at all to do with the film. Remember, this is just Tunnicliffe going on his own and trying to pitch something.
