It looks like we’ve got another graphic novel adaptation heading our way according to The Hollywood Reporter. The graphic novel in question is AFTERBURN and comes from Red 5 Comics. Relatively Media will be working on the film.

According to THR a writer has already been tapped to adapt the comic. Matt Johnson has been given the job. Here’s what we might expect with AFTERBURN: a sci-fi adventure set against the backdrop of a postapocalyptic Earth whose Eastern Hemisphere was destroyed by a massive solar flare, leaving what life remains mutated from radiation and fallout. The story revolves around a group of treasure hunters who extract such objects as the Mona Lisa, the Rosetta Stone and the Crown Jewels while facing rival hunters, mutants and pirates.

Hmm. That sounds intriguing. Then again when you look at Johnson’s previous credits (TORQUE, INTO THE BLUE), it’s hard to imagine the man bringing us a badass sci-fi romp with twisted mutants. But hey… we can hope right!?

AFTERBURN is heading our way thanks to Tobey Maguire’s Maguire Entertainment and Neal Moritz’s Original Films. Toby Jaffe is also producing. That’s all we’ve got thus far for AFTERBURN, so keep it here for any other updates as we hear them!
