Back in October I told you how director extraordinaire Sam Mendes was pegged to direct the adaptation of the comic PREACHER. Well now we’ve got an all star writer pegged to script it!
Variety dropped word today that screenwriter extraordinaire John August will be penning the PREACHER adaptation. A supernatural violent story being brought to us by Sam Mendes and John August. Wow. Say what you want about these two guys, but they know what they’re doing. Both of them tackling a genre project like PREACHER though? I’ve got faith in them!
August’s credits include THE NINES, CORPSE BRIDE, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACOTRY, and BIG FISH while Mendes’ credits read AMERICAN BEAUTY, ROAD TO PERDITION, JARHEAD, and REVOLUTIONARY ROAD.
The award winning graphic novel spanned 75 issues and comes from creators Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon. Here’s the synopsis: PREACHER centers on a down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon. Given immense powers, the preacher teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and set out on a journey across America to find God — who apparently had abandoned his duties in heaven — and hold him accountable for his negligence.
