Here’s a bit of news to throw the horror community for a loop: Bill Hader and Judd Apatow are looking to make a horror movie! CHUD got the word from Hader himself that Apatow approached the writer/actor and stated how he’d like to do a horror movie with him, pointing out that he wants it to be a slasher.
So Hader and SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE writer Simon Rich penned a script that’s “… partially Straw Dogs meets Halloween meets Home Alone meets Monster Squad.” Well that pretty much just blew my mind. I can’t even imagine a slasher flick following along those lines. HOME ALONE? What have these men come up with? Hader states how the movie might not even get made, and with Apatow’s busy slate that’s always a possibility… but let’s hope it does!
Obviously the flick will be a horror/comedy. Now we all remember the last time a comedy group tried their hand at horror… we got Broken Lizard’s CLUB DREAD. Now I’m a huge Broken Lizard fan, and dug CLUB DREAD, but it’s not widely appreciated around the genre… so might Hader and Apatow do better? Well considering the guys are pretty much geniuses, I wouldn’t doubt it. Here’s how Hader (above) explains the film:
‘It is definitely about guys nowadays, that idea that you watch fucked up shit on TV, how violence in our culture – this sounds really hoity toity – you watch fucked up reality shows, I love true crime shows. The idea of that thing coming to your house, and what do you do? I would shit my pants. That’s basically what the movie is about. What if that guy decided to come to your house? What would you and your dipshit friends do about it?’
Hmm. Well needless to say we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one. We’ll be sure to pass along any updates as soon as we hear them.
