A new batch of steam has been given to the upcoming comic book adaptation of JONAH HEX, a flick I thought would be in development hell for years, but is luckily quickly on its way into production.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, HORTON HEARS A WHO director Jimmy Hayward has taken over as director, making HEX his live-action directorial debut. It seems a bit odd that a guy behind an animated Dr. Seuss story would be th choice for something like HEX, but then again… he has to start doing live-action stuff somewhere, right?
CRANK directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor were originally set to direct the film, based on their screenplay, but they peaced out on the project a few months ago. Luckily, HEX will still be using their script
Another stroke of luck for HEX is that Josh Brolin is still on board to play the title character, known for having the right side of his face disfigured and wearing a Confederate army uniform, was a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood.
The script is said to have a lot of supernatural elements to it, lets just hope Hayward has what it takes to pull it off. With Brolin on board and Neveldine / Taylor’s script, I don’t see how it can go wrong. And honestly, I can’t flipplin’ wait! Sounds like the making of a horror western done right!
And maybe the coolest part of all? JONAH HEX is set to go into production in March of April. Yeah baby! Stick around for more HEX updates as we get closer to production!
