Forbidden Cameron

It looks like the FORBIDDEN PLANET remake is pretty close to scoring a director… an award winning genius director at that. Of course I’m talking about James Cameron!

It’s no secret that Warner Brothers are moving forward with the remake, recently getting J. Michael Straczynski to pen the script. Now this is old news… but no director has been talked about until now. It seems IESB recently scored a scoop from ‘a source inside the FORBIDDEN PLANET’ camp that Cameron (right) is very interested in helming the project.

Now usually the news of a remake has us movie fans ready to vomit… but sometimes there’s a very capable director attached that makes us go ‘Sweet.’ I think it’s safe to assume this would be one of those times. The funny thing is this isn’t the first time Cameron’s name has been attached to a FORBIDDEN PLANET remake. Back in 1998 Cameron expressed his interest in directing the project, but that buzz quickly died down when talks of the film seemed to die.

Well since Warner Bros. are most definitely moving forward with FORBIDDEN PLANET, it seems to have caught Cameron’s eye once again. Imagine James Cameron bringing the world of FORBIDDEN PLANET to life with the technology he has at his disposal now?! That’s almost mindblowing. Of course this is hardly more than a rumor at this point… but it’s something we’ll be keeping an eye on.

IESB also scored some detailed info on the FORBIDDEN PLANET remake, which you can find here. Keep it here for any more news on FORBIDDEN PLANET as we hear it. Hopefully we’ll find out Cameron’s stance sooner rather than later. In the meantime we have Cameron’s AVATAR to look forward to.
