Moon for November

Summit Entertainment made an official announcement yesterday: TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON will be hitting theaters on November 20, 2009. Yes, the exact same release time as TWILIGHT. Looks like this may be our next SAW franchise!

Now in it’s fourth week of release, TWILIGHT has made over $150M, which Summit wants to duplicate with the Chris Weitz directed sequel. But will it be able to hold? Yes, the fan base that’s out there will likely go nuts over it again, but will other people be duped again to see a so-so vampire romance play out again? Actually… yeah, I think they will.

But unlike this year, next year’s November 20th release weekend will have some competition: the WB’s SHERLOCK HOLMES with Robert Downey Jr., MGM’s THREE STOOGES bio pic, and the animated PLANET 51. Good luck keeping the box office crown, NEW MOON! Talk about going against some serious heavy hitters.
