TERMINATOR SALVATION hasn’t even hit theaters yet, and Halcyon Co. executives Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek have already announced a second installment to the “new trilogy,” or realistically, a TERMINATOR 5.
Sure, we knew Chrstian Bale signed up for three films, but usually they wait to decide to move forward based on the success of the first film. I guess the studio and fan reaction to the the kick ass trailer was so positive that they decided to say “f*ck it,” and let the world know a sequel will be on the way.
Where TERMINATOR SALVATION was filmed on location in Albuquerque, New Mexico, there’s talk that the sequel may film entirely in the Middle East, possibly near Dubai. That’s interesting and will likely jump-start some speculation regarding where the series goes after SALVATION. Will it be total war? Are they needing an area that is so large and desolate so they can create an amazing (and large) set? If so… that’s awesome!
I’m still on the fence about SALVATION, though I’m leaning pretty hard towards really looking forward to it, as they’re right–the trailer was awesome, and everything we’ve seen thus far points to greatness. Except the PG-13 rating. That sucks… but who knows, maybe McG can push the envelope and (somehow) make it work.
Look for TERMINATOR 5 in theaters summer 2011.
