Oldboy NOT remake

It seems that not many people are stoked on the Steven Spielberg / Will Smith team-up of OLDBOY. The flick just scored a new writer to take the project to the big screen, but according to Smith, their version will NOT be a remake of Chan-wook Park’s film!

FilmSchoolRejects recently chatted with Smith, who had this to say about the new OLDBOY: We’re looking at that right now. Not the film though, it’s the original source material. There’s the original comics of ‘Oldboy’ that they made the first film from. And that’s what we’re working from, not an adaptation of the film…

And there you have it. While it hasn’t been made official yet, Smith also told them that he will, for sure, be starring in the new movie. And Spielberg’s involvement… not sure yet, other than he was buying the rights to the original graphic novel, and not the film itself, as we all had previously thought.

So, a new take on the original source material? Hey… it could work! I haven’t read the graphic novel, but it makes me feel better to know that it won’t be a remake, per se, more like a retake of the comic.

Does this change YOUR opinion whether the Smith / Spielberg OLDBOY should happen? Spit some bullets below, and be sure to check out the original scoop by clicking HERE.
