Dare I say Matthew Vaughn’s KICK-ASS might just be the most violent graphic novel adaptation to date? Now before people tackle me and hit me with candy canes, hear me out. I’m just saying this is a possibility. Sure, there’s WANTED, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, 300, and SIN CITY among lots others, they’re called ‘graphic’ novels for a reason. But I’m sold on the early buzz for KICK-ASS.
Maybe it’s Nicolas Cage saying how a role hasn’t had him excited like this in a long time. Or maybe it’s the fact that no studio would back Vaughn because he refused to water it down. No studio! How violent must this thing be? So the man went out and raised his own money (70 mil!) to make his movie the way he wants. Needless to say I’m actually looking forward to KICK-ASS and hoping it brings some badass violence to the table. Only time will tell though.
Today Newsarama scored a look at the first two official stills for the flick. We’ve seen behind the scenes pics here and here, but nothing official until now. The two stills center on the main character Dave Lizewski, who is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.

KICK-ASS stars Aaron Johnson as Lizewski with other cast including Cage, Christopher ‘McLovin’ Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong, Lyndsy Fonseca, Xander Berkeley, Chloe Moretz, and Deborah Twiss (below). It’s currently filming so keep it here for any more updates.
