Last week I told you all that THE ORPHANAGE director Juan Antonio Bayona would be directing HATER. Well Twitch recently caught up with the international director to talk about the project!
Before we get into that though, let me give you a quick history of HATER. None other than genre god Guillermo del Toro will be producing the film, at one point looking to direct. Glen Mazzara will be penning a script based off the novel by David Moody which follows an epidemic of random violence in which ordinary people strike lethally without warning or remorse. Sure, we’ve seen this before, but with del Toro and Bayona behind it I’m definately game!
Here’s a bit from the interview:
“…The media tells the story in a way that one has to wonder if everything is really happening, or maybe if it’s all result of collective hysteria. The uncertainty is frightening: nobody knows who will survive at the end of the day or who will die. What I really liked about the story was that it deals with the real world we are living. It asks if we want to live in a world where we are controlled from above, through fear. HATER is an answer to that fear: it shows what can happen when people react to it with uncontrollable fury. That’s an excellent start for a movie.”
