A wonderful Halloween tradition is getting a make-over. AMC’s Horrorfest (a.k.a. Monsterfest), which is an annual event showcasing a slew of horror movies new and old throughout the late October days, will now be hosted by Rob Zombie.
From October 24-31, AMC Fearfest will showcase a variety of genre-film favorites, including two AMC Premiere Events. The eight-day marathon will encompass more than 175 hours of genre films, culminating on Halloween day with a special “Evil 8 Countdown” of killer movies all day long, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 a.m.
Filmed in a morgue and a boiler room (visual references to RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, perhaps?), Zombie will offer “unscripted, edgy and unique” commentary on AMC’s two prime-time movies each night—including interviews with actors and filmmakers from the flicks in question—beginning the 24th with a 30th-anniversary celebration of the original HALLOWEEN at 8 p.m., followed by HALLOWEEN 4 at 10. The diminishing-in-quality sequels HALLOWEEN 5 and HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS will air after the first duo. Zombie will also lend introductions and special chat to the HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL and WILLARD remakes, JEEPERS CREEPERS and JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY.
I know some of you might say, “Well why the hell would you watch chopped-up movies on basic cable with commercials?!” Well, sometimes tradition trumps logic. For me, there’s something fun about knowing when you flip on AMC during that last week of October, there will be horror movie on. How many times I’ve watched HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH on that channel, I cannot tell you, but there’s just something right about it.
Might Zombie’s main squeeze stop by for a visit?
