Way back in May we gave you all the last update on HATER – that Mr. Guillermo del Toro would be producing and NOT directing thanks to his committment to THE HOBBIT movies or something. Well today Variety just dropped some big news on HATER.
Huge news in the form of a director for HATER. Just not some random director either, but Juan Antonio Bayona! Sure… that may not ring a bell right away… but what about when I tell you that Bayona is the guy who directed THE ORPHANAGE?
Now THE ORPHANAGE has some positive buzz surrounding it. Most people loved it, I thought it was decent enough. I was just under the impression it’d be scarier… but I still dug it. And as most probably know, del Toro also produced THE ORPHANAGE. Bayona will be making his English directing debut with HATER.
HATER is a twisted novel from David Moody. Basically it’s about an epidemic of random violence in which ordinary people strike lethally without warning or remorse. Not exactly original… but if it caught del Toro’s eye so it’s got to be something! I’m definately down, I love that basic plot anyway. So del Toro and Mark Johnson are producing with Glen Mazzara penning the script and Bayona directing. As soon as we hear more on HATER we’ll update you.
