It was only last week that I told you all that Matt Reeves was set to write and direct the US remake to Swedish vampire flick LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. Well it looks like someone else has something to say about this remake…
That someone else would be Thomas Alfredson, who directed LET THE RIGHT ONE IN. What did Mr. Alfredson have to say about a remake to his movie? Well here’s what he told Moviezine.se:
“Why can’t they just read the subtitles? Remakes should be made of movies that aren’t very good, that gives you the chance to fix whatever has gone wrong. I’m very proud of my movie and think it’s great, but the Americans might be of an other opinion. The saddest thing for me would be to see that beautiful story made into something mainstream. I don’t like to whine, but of course – if you’d spent years on painting a picture, you’d hate to hear buzz about a copy even before your vernissage!
Zing. Them are fighting words round these parts. Truth be told… I can totally see Alfredson’s point. Buzz on LET THE RIGHT ONE IN has it being a phenomenal movie… and with the guys behind CLOVERFIELD bringing this remake to life… I can see Alfredson’s argument that it’s going to be all Hollywood.
So what’s your take? Personally I can’t wait to see Alfredson’s LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, and I’m not intrigued at all by the remake… but we shall see I guess.
