Way back in March news broke that the Sweidsh vampire flick LET THE RIGHT ONE IN was being pegged for a remake here in the US. Well that was the last we heard about this remake… until now.
We told you how J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot was looking to snag the remake rights… well it seems only fitting then that Bad Robot mainstay Matt Reeves has been tapped to write and direct the LET THE RIGHT ONE IN remake.
I’m sure most will know Reeves (right) as the guy who directed CLOVERFIELD, so how do you think he’ll do with this groovy vampire flick?
I’m thinking it’s tough to make any judgement, considering CLOVERFIELD and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN seem to be two entirely different types of films. So I’m going to go ahead and give Reeves the benefit of the doubt and wait till I see more from this remake.. like maybe some cast? Here’s the synopsis in case you don’t know it: Oskar, a bullied 12-year old, dreams of revenge. He falls in love with Eli, a peculiar girl. She can’t stand the sun or food and to come into a room she needs to be invited. Eli gives Oskar the strength to hit back but when he realizes that Eli needs to drink other peoples blood to live he’s faced with a choice. How much can love forgive? Let The Right One In is a story both violent and highly romantic, set in the Stockholm suburb of Blackeberg in 1982.
One thing’s for sure… I highly doubt the remake will match the critically acclaimed original. LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is coming from Overture Films and Hammer Films and is looking at a 2009 release. As always, we’ll keep you updated.
