What’s worse than an unneeded sequel to an awesome flick? How about two unneeded sequels! It was obvious that THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT was going to produce a batch of knock offs, but it surprised the shite out of me that they went and made a sequel to the flick as it was a pretty solid stand alone film. Of course, the sequel went straight to DVD and was quickly forgot about, as I don’t know anyone who actually took the time and watched the flick.
Apparently I don’t know the right people! A second sequel is now in the works, BUTTERFLY EFFECT: REVELATION, gearing up for a spot in the third annual After Dark Horrorfest this January. Talk about cutting it close! The film is currently filming, and we just learned of some casting news that may have you jumping for joy.
We got word that Rachel Miner (aka Macaulay Culkin’s ex wife) has scored a role in the flick, thought it’s hard to tell just how big that role is. You may remember this little hottie from this summer’s FEAR ITSELF (specifically, starring in THE SACRIFICE) or from last year’s Horrorfest entry, TOOTH AND NAIL.
REVELATION also stars Miss Horrorfest Mistress Malice (aka Melissa Jones, below) and Chris Carmack, and goes a little something like this: a young man discovers he has inherited the powers of “The Butterfly Effect” and attempts to solve the mystery of his high school girlfriend’s death using his newfound ability, only to unwittingly unleash a vicious serial killer.
Ok, so it has a semi-cool premise, but inheriting “The Butterfly Effect” gene? Really? That’s all they could come up with? So it’s a little weak on the storyline, but it could end up being worth of an hour and a half of your time… at least it stars some foxy ladies!
After Dark’s Horrorfest runs from January 2 – 9, 2009 at select theaters near you.
